The
best cheap hydroponics are the ones made at home. There are illustrated
tutorials all over the Internet about different hydroponic methods that
can be constructed at home mostly using household items. Here is a good
example of a DIY ebb&flow system. All you need is a two-liter bottle.
One-liter bottle caps, superglue, aquarium hose and fitting, black paint,
and some perlite growth medium.
Once you gather the materials for cheap hydroponics, make a coupler between
the two bottle tops (face together) by first heating the plastic, then
super gluing them together. Now take the two-liter bottle and wrap the
threads with tape and run a strip down one side. Paint the bottle black.
This will help increase the amount of energy captured in the reservoir.
The pot for this method of cheap hydroponics is made from the one-liter
bottle with the bottom cut off and a hole bored in the side about halfway
up to account for excess rainfall. Now screw the coupler into the reservoir
bottle and screw the one-liter bottle on top of the coupler. Fill the
pot bottle with perlite and plant!
