There
is actually no difference between hydroponic tomato seeds, and regular
tomato seeds. Any plant that grows well in soil can be grown hydroponically
just as well, and in most cases better, producing larger plants with
more fruit. Tomatoes are one plant that grows exceptionally well using
hydroponic systems, partly because of its high percentage of water.
There are some tomato plants that have been engineered specifically
for hydroponic growing systems. These hydroponic tomato seeds allow
the tomato plant to concentrate its efforts on the leaves and fruit
instead of the roots which receive a constant supply of air, nutrients
and water. Tomato plants in soil have to continually grow their root
ball further and further to gather nutrients from the soil.
Hydroponic tomato seeds are very new and may not have any advantages
over regular tomato seeds. There are many varieties of seeds that produce
very different looking and tasting tomatoes. Heirloom tomatoes come
in many irregular shapes because the seeds have been passed down, instead
of genetically engineered like most of the tomatoes found at supermarkets
which are often hydroponically grown.
